The 1997 forum examined several requirements for individuals and organizations working to eliminate domestic violence within the African American community. The forum challenged African Americans to lead the fight to end domestic violence by gathering literature and engaging practitioners in the ultimate assembly of programs and services that address the culture, socialization, and experiences of African American people. Plenary session titles include: Welfare Reform, Domestic Violence, and the African American Community; Bridges between the Field of Violence and Other Destructive Behaviors; The Role of Institutions in the Black Community in Preventing Violence; Partner Abuse in the Black Community: Culturally Specific Prevention and Treatment Models; and Culturally Specific Models.
